What is causing this is people only hear the hate from the fascists. The Democrats either say nothing or join in the kicking. We need a political party which will actually support us.
The public is frequently wrong about basic facts. If they asked about the existence of intersex people, I would imagine a similarly wrong opinion would dominate, just as the earth being flat, the sun revolving around the earth, attaching leeches and other views of the majority throughout time.
In order to determine my approval of your existence, I need you to explain, at a medical-biological level, why you are the person you are. A failure to do so would suggest you're simply fabricating it, thus diminishing my reason to care about you.
Folks, we don't yet have enough definitive scientific understanding to fully answer this. While some notable scientists believe they have evidence of a physical, biological connection—a 'nature' component, if you will—they represent a minority view. Fully proving their theories would require detailed studies that are unlikely to ever receive funding.
I propose we table this unanswerable 'gotcha' question and, instead, reframe it as a fundamental human rights issue. Let's aim to engage the agenda, not alienate our potential allies."
But this is, date i say, a false binary. There is a world of difference between "Born that way" and "a choice". I am a 66 year old cis gay rights campaigner, 150% in support of trans rights. But I am not fully convinced that being trans is literally "genetic" any more than my homosexuality is. My claim to equality and liberation has never depended on my not being able to "help it", although it is obviously true that I did not "choose" it
